Overview: Flag Football is open to ALL children entering the 1st through 8th grades. The Flag program is intended to introduce our young athletes to the game of football and to gain an understanding of its fundamentals. The emphasis will be on skills training, conditioning and sportsmanship within a fun, safe and supportive environment.
The Program: The program will be a HOUSE program open to boys and girls who reside in Ridgefield. This means the majority of games will be held here in Ridgefield, but we may have one or more jamborees with other Fairfield County Football organizations that have similar programs as ours. RYF will accept out-of-town participants who do not have a similar program in their respective towns. There will be three levels: one that co-mingles first and second graders, another that co-mingles third, fourth and fifth graders and another that co-mingles sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Players will be assigned to teams loosely based on their elementary school with approximately 8 to 10 players per team.
Games and Practice: The Fall 2023 season will be held Saturday mornings at East Ridge middle School beginning September 10th and ending November 12th. We plan to schedule one practice per week for each team that will be of one hour to 1 ¼ hour. Game and practice times will become definitive closer to the season.
Coaches: Coaches will be parents and high school volunteers. RYFC needs coaching volunteers at both levels. No experience is necessary.
Equipment: Players are required to wear mouth guards at all times. Cleats are recommended, but not required. A cup and supporter is also optional.
General: As previously stated, the intent of the program is instructional with an emphasis on FUN. There will be no records kept, no playoffs nor championships. Players will be as fully engaged as possible playing multiple positions.
